Hello! I wanted to correct my post. I apologize for the error but my great grandfather, William Frances McAllister passed away in 1920 not 1940. I wanted to also add that my sister Mary and I strongly resemble my great grandmother and her sister, who died at 15. My great grandmother was Mary M Jeffers McAllister.Thank you!

Hi, great website! My great great grandfather was Charles McAllister and my great-great grandmother was Emily Samantha Compston. I believe they lived in West Virginia. My great grandfather, William Frances McAllister lived in Huntington and died in 1940! Ive always wondered if my ancestors were from Ireland or Scotland. Take care McAllisters!

As far back as I can find my family line begins with Charles McCallister whom married Emily Samantha Compston. My grandfather was Eustace Edward "Mack" McCallister he married Ardeth Ann Newman. I would like to find more ancestors before Charles. I am glad I happened on this page. Great information!

Per Roshanda McCallister Williams: "Hi. I was just reading through a PDF file here. My great great grandparents were Moses McCallister & Isabelle Olinger. Their son Andrew Jackson McCallister (Mister Jack) & wife Etta Griffith (your record says Griffin) had 4 children. (3 living to adulthood.) The youngest was Olen Dunward McCallister- born July 26, 1917. (Etta would die 5 years later) He was my grandfather- & a great man. They were poor, rural people-Â but the McCallister name was one that garnered respect. And yes- how you spelled the name & the 2 lines under the "c" was very important! Perhaps the various branches of the family tree wanted to clearly distinguish & distance themselves from the others? But I remember that our name was a source of pride. Poor and rural; but known for honor and& integrity. Thank you. Roshanda McCallister Williams"

I am hoping we are related and that someone in the clan has taken a DNA test on 23 and Me or uploaded to Gedmatch. I am also on FTDNA but less familiar with their site. My great grandmother was Elizabeth "Lizzie" Hodge, and she married John Alexander in southern Ohio. I have no idea how they met each other. Unfortunately she was gone long before I was born, but I am, like everyone else these days, trying to dig up my ancestors. I believe she was descended from Blount Hodge of KY. I am an Alexander through the son of Lizzie Hodge Alexander and John Alexander. My grandfather Alvah Alexander was born in Washington Courthouse OH in 1892. Strangely enough, the name Alexander is Scots for Alister or McAlistair (or other variations). I have been to both Ireland and Scotland searching for my Alexander roots but assume that the Hodges came from England. If you have info which might help me in my search, please contact me. I will be very grateful! Many thanks, Suzanne Alexander, Atlanta, GA. suzannetvLs@msn.com

Elisha Durbin, I have an interest in him because of my famly ties, he was a brother to my GGgrandfather and I see that he is also related to you, he had a sister Rebecca I think where you fit in, It really caught my eye when I was reading your blog and saw Mary Anne & Anthony's named in it and I said whoa I know them, I am a first cousin to Anthony's mom. I doubt that I have any info on Fr. Durbin that you don't already have but I do have a picture of him that I will send to you, I called Anthony a few minutes ago, we talked about this, then I thought about your web sight. Bill Wink

Her nephew (brother's son) did some ancestral searching and he traced us back to the feudal wars in Scotland but of course those lasted a very long time. Interesting web surfing, and maybe some information. I am from the Sanders branch of Shively Ky. My Father was Ray, His father was Lee Alfred, His Father was John J (Jones), and his father was John J (Jones), and his father was William Sanders who married Lucinda Jones December 28, 1819. Lucinda’s father was John Jones, a Tanner in Shively. William died without a will and his property went to court in 1837/38, and he had a minor child named Sarah. The Court had to subpoena a David Sanders from Smithland Ky, who we assume was a brother to William. I do have more information but not handy at this time. Could David have brought Sarah back from Shively/Louisville and could she be your great-great grandmother? My Email is Steve6522@cableone.net as well as Stephan.sanders@wancdf.com, my phone is (256)591-6041.

Hi Stephen. My name is Robert Charles (Bob) Bartley. I am a distant cousin and a medical device representative by trade. I was born Janury 16th, 1977 in Cincinnati, OH, grew up in Bay Village, OH (near Cleveland) and currently live in Fishers, IN (near Indianapolis). I am the son of Charles Phillip Bartley, Jr., MD and the grandson of Charles Phillip Bartley,Sr., MD. (b. 1918 in Uniontown, KY and still alive in Avon Lake, OH), who, as you know, is the son of Mary Catherine McAllister Bartley and the grandson of C. A. McAllister. This makes me a great-great-grandson of C.A. McAlister. It was amazing to see pictures of my great-grandmother, great grandfater (John Kendrick "Kenny" Bartley,Sr.) and great-great-grandfather C. A. McAllister that I had never seen before in my life, even at age 31!! Your research was incredibly thorough and my mother Jo Ann Miller Bartley, who is a German teacher, former professor and certifiable Deutsch-o-phile (for lack of a better term), would love to learn the fact that my great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great Grandfather Matthias Stroupe was a German Jew who emigrated to what would be the United States in 1684. Who knew?!?! Anyway, I am married to my wife Jessica and have a baby boy (Zachary Charles Bartley) due to be born @ April 3rd. Your site is great! Go Clan McAlister!!

I am an ancestor of Pope Alvey. I can't remember off of the top of my head the rest of the lineage, but my Great Grandmother was Annie Malinda Alvey who married Robert Goldesberry they lived around the Hardin county area. My grandfather was Leonard Goldesberry. My mother remembers going to my grandfathers birthplace as a little girl. I guess he was born in a home that was by the Alveys general store. Thanks for the information on Arthur Alvey, I believe he was fired from the parish due to cock fighting, but read this information from a different website and am not sure if the information is valid.

Greetings from Canada! Your brief family history is so similar to mine. My forefathers also left Scotland, sojourned in Ulster, Ireland and then travelled to the American Colonies (New Hampshire). The Revolution caused my forefather, Daniel, to travel to New Brunswick, Canada, on a Loyalist ship. It's possible that our sojourning forefathers were closely related and settled near each other. Who knows?

I think we emailed once before, you and I. I am so enjoying your web site!! I am trying to piece together the same pieces of my family past. I am Mary (Heavrin) Hartig Weber. My father was Ralph Thomas Heavrin. His mother was Thelma Thomas and Father was Bernard Heavrin. I remember childhood visits in Kentucky at an old farmhouse with a cannon in the front yard. Aunt Mary Riggs, Aunt Mary Thomas and Uncle Buck come to mind. I am also related to the Oberhausens on my mother's side of the family.I was named after Mary Katherine McAllister, my mother's best friend. Although there's dispute about Catherine or Katherine, I think she's related to you as well. Maybe not. Can you show me how my family conntects from the Thomas or Heavrin side? I'm not that far.

My ancestor Angus McAlister CMA A17 and his brother Alexander McAlister CMA A29 were also from Kintyre. And are believed to have lived on the Loch Cairran farm of the Balinakill estate before emigrating to America in late 1770.

My father was Ignatius Heavrin, one of 11 children of Samuel Rowan Heavrin and his wife, an Oberhausen. He was born and raised in Morganfield, Ky. We visited this town almost every summer when I was a child. We stayed with my Aunt Mary, who was married to William (Billy) Lindo. Uncle Billy was the Henry County Court Clerk. Mary and Billy had no children. My father, Ignatius, married Mary Silvia and they had six children who were eiither born or raised in Southern California. I would love to hear from anyone having information about any of these families. I had never heard of a family connection to the McAllisters. I'm not even sure of the connection. Hope to hear from someone soon.
